swimming the English Channel
Sam Penny's journey to conquer the Everest of swimming
After finishing four weekends of racing, this week marks the start of me tracking my mileage. Two weekends racing in the pool and two in the ocean has left me feeling a little buggered. My 5km pool set this morning was hard. Not because of the times, but just all the racing. I could have slept in or done less of a set but, in my mind, I was thinking that I just need to get used to this feeling of dead and heavy. When I swim the Channel, or any of my big swims for that matter, I can't just stop and wait to feel better. Better get used to it now. I am still 18months away from my Channel crossing, the big thing I want is confidence in being able to do the big miles. This week I am planning 30-35km including a 15km ocean swim on Saturday at Mooloolaba, Australia. I've never been a long distance swimmer so my entire focus is on building my confidence. Here's Max and I having a little debrief on the weekend that was and this week coming.
